New Friends From Distant Lands

This is a short film from Dirbdil Assefa, his name actually means Double Victory so that's what I call him. I watched his tender moving film a second time today and felt undeniably grateful.

Dirbdil has been in Winterthur for just about a week and is participating in Winterthur's International Short Film Festival. He's from the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa which is according to Wikipedia one of the oldest sites of human existence known to scientist. There's a lot about Ethiopia which I don't know about. Honestly, all I really know about Ethiopia is its mouthwatering cuisine and communal eating customs from the many Ethiopian restaurants I frequented in Amsterdam. Ethiopia has the most rivers, some of the highest mountains in Africa and the Dallol is the hottest place in the world. It's one of the seven centers of origin of cultivated plants of the world. Intriguingly they have their own calendar with 12 months of 30 days and a 13th month. Most of our coffee and livestock also comes from Ethiopia. I'm becoming very curious about this fascinating country and would like to one day visit Dirbdil at his home.

I'm excited to be included in this project and engrossed in the process of Double Victory's vision taking form.  It will be an honor to be in such good company at the Kurzfilmtage. Hope to see you at the festival on November 11th.
